Saint Germaine Cousin is a French Catholic saint born in 1579. She lived a difficult life due to her poverty and congenital illness, which left her lame and malformed. Germaine found refuge and comfort in prayer and religious devotion, and was known for her kindness and compassion toward others. She died on June 15, 1601 at the age of 22, and was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1867. Today she is revered as the patroness of shepherds, the disabled and victims of abuse.
