Saint Joachim is the father of the Virgin Mary and the husband of Saint Anne. His story comes mainly from apocryphal writings, notably the Protevangelium of James. He is often depicted as an elderly man, a symbol of patience and faith, having prayed for a long time to have a child. The Catholic Church venerates him as a saint, and his feast day is celebrated on July 26, at the same time as that of Saint Anne. He is considered the patron saint of grandparents and families.
Saint John the Baptist is a major prophet of Christianity, a precursor to Jesus Christ. He is known for preaching repentance and baptizing the faithful in the Jordan River, announcing the coming of the Messiah. According to the Gospels, he also baptized Jesus. He was imprisoned and executed by beheading on the orders of King Herod Antipas, at the request of Salome. The Church celebrates his birth on June 24 and his martyrdom on August 29.
Saint Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-1591) was a young Italian nobleman who renounced his wealth to join the Jesuits. He was very pious from childhood and devoted his life to prayer and serving the sick. During a plague epidemic in Rome, he contracted the disease while caring for victims and died at only 23 years old. He is recognized as the patron saint of Christian youth. His feast day is celebrated on June 21.
