Saint Philomena, famous for her unwavering faith and martyrdom, remains a figure shrouded in mystery and legend. Originally from Greece and aged only 13, she is said to have suffered martyrdom in the 4th century for refusing to renounce her Christian faith despite the torture inflicted. Often depicted carrying a fleur-de-lis, a symbol of purity, and an anchor, a symbol of hope, she is revered as the patroness of desperate causes and is invoked for the performance of miracles. Her devotion has spread across the world and she is commemorated every year on August 11.
