Saint Philomena is a Christian martyr venerated by the Catholic Church. According to tradition, she lived in 3rd-century Greece and was persecuted for her faith. She is said to have been a noble girl who converted to Christianity and refused to renounce her faith. She was imprisoned, tortured, and eventually killed, but her cult spread widely after her miraculous discovery in the 19th century, when a tomb was found in Rome bearing her name. Saint Philomena is often depicted with symbols of purity and martyrdom, including an anchor and arrows. She is invoked for miraculous healings and requests for spiritual protection. Her feast day is celebrated on August 11.
