BJ-G. Perboyre, Mr. Saint Jean Gabriel Perboyre
Saint Jean-Gabriel Perboyre was a 19th-century French missionary priest, born in 1802. He was ordained a priest in 1826 and later joined the Congregation of the Vincentians. He is known for his mission in China, where he worked to spread Christianity despite the persecution of missionaries. In 1840, he was arrested by Chinese authorities and suffered severe torture. Ultimately, he was executed by strangulation in 1840, becoming a martyr for the Christian faith in China. He was canonized in 1996 by Pope John Paul II. Saint Jean-Gabriel Perboyre is venerated for his dedication and sacrifice in spreading the Christian faith in China.
