Saint Proteus and Saint Hyacinthus are two Christian martyrs of the early 4th century, linked to the period of great persecutions against Christians under the Roman Empire. According to tradition, they were Christian servants in the house of Saint Eugenia in Rome and were arrested for their faith. Refusing to renounce Christianity, they were tortured and eventually executed. Their martyrdom is a testimony to their unwavering fidelity to the Gospel. Their relics rest in the Catacombs of Saint Hermes in Rome, and their cult has developed over the centuries. Saints Proteus and Hyacinthus are commemorated in the Roman Martyrology on September 11. Their example inspires courage and fidelity in the trials of the Christian life.
