Saint Andrew, brother of Simon Peter, is one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. Originally from Bethsaida, on the shores of Lake Tiberias, he worked as a fisherman before becoming a disciple of John the Baptist and then following Christ. Andrew is often considered the first called among the apostles, hence his nickname "Protocletus". After the resurrection of Jesus, he left to evangelize several regions, notably Greece and Asia Minor. According to tradition, he was martyred in Patras, Greece, on an X-shaped cross, which is today known as "Saint Andrew's Cross". He is the patron saint of several countries, including Scotland and Russia. His feast day is celebrated on November 30 in the Christian calendar.
Saint Matthew, also known as Levi, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the presumed author of the first Gospel of the New Testament. Before his vocation, he worked as a tax collector , a profession despised by the Jews of the time, which makes his conversion all the more significant. Called by Jesus while sitting in the customs office, Matthew leaves everything to follow Christ, symbolizing the power of divine grace. His Gospel, written primarily for a Jewish audience, emphasizes Jesus as the awaited Messiah, in line with Old Testament prophecies. Tradition records that he preached in Palestine, then in distant lands such as Ethiopia, where he is said to have died a martyr. His feast day is celebrated on September 21 .
