Rare silvered bronze reliquary with glass front, containing a precious relic of Saint Thomas the Apostle. The sacred fragment, delicately placed on a red fabric ground, is identified by a handwritten label in Latin bearing the inscription “S. Thomae A.”, an abbreviation of Sancti Thomae Apostoli. Surrounding the relic, a radiant decoration of gilded filigree forms a true aureole, emphasizing the apostolic dignity of the saint and the spiritual value of the piece.

The ensemble has remained in its perfect original condition, with its original glass, ecclesiastical seal, and silk binding threads still perfectly intact, attesting that the reliquary has never been opened since its creation.

Authenticated relics of Saint Thomas the Apostle are particularly sought after. A missionary apostle to the far reaches of the East and a figure of faith and inner transformation, Thomas occupies a singular place in Christian tradition. His journey—from initial disbelief to the ardent proclamation “My Lord and my God”—illustrates the depth of the encounter with the risen Christ. His martyrdom in India and the spread of his cult through the centuries have made him one of the most venerated apostles, both in the West and in the East.

Saint Thomas, one of the Twelve Apostles, remains a deeply compelling figure of early Christianity. His thoughtful and demanding temperament earned him the name “Didymus,” the Twin, a symbol of his inner nature sometimes divided between doubt and faith. The episode in which he asks to see the marks of the Passion before believing in the Resurrection has become one of the most famous moments of the Gospel—not to highlight a weakness, but to reveal an authentic path toward spiritual certainty. When Christ reveals Himself to him, Thomas exclaims, “My Lord and my God,” one of the most beautiful professions of faith in the entire New Testament. According to tradition, he subsequently evangelized Mesopotamia and especially India, where he converted numerous communities before dying a martyr. His spiritual legacy illustrates that doubt can become a gateway to a deeper and more luminous faith.
