Mary Magdalene occupies a unique and paradoxical place in the Christian tradition, being both a figure of penance and of spiritual intimacy with Christ. Identified as Maria Magdalena , her origin from Magdala in Galilee is underlined by the Synoptic Gospels. She embodies the radical transformation by divine grace. Delivered from "seven demons" (according to Luke 8:2), she becomes one of the first and most faithful disciples of Jesus, attending his Passion, his burial and especially the theophany on Easter morning. In this sense, she deserves the patristic title of "Apostola Apostolorum" (Apostle to the Apostles), because she brings the first announcement of the Resurrection to the disciples. This complex figure, mixing repentance, fidelity and apostolic mission, remains a powerful symbol of transformative grace and the vocation to holiness.
