Saint Mark , one of the four evangelists, is the author of the second Gospel of the New Testament, often considered the oldest of the four. He is traditionally associated with Saint Peter, whose companion and translator he is said to have been, which gives a special dimension to his evangelical witness. His Gospel emphasizes the action and power of Jesus, presenting a dynamic portrait of his life and miracles. Mark is also often considered the founder of the Christian Church in Alexandria, where he is venerated as its first bishop. He is represented by a lion in Christian iconography, symbolizing both the strength and kingship of Christ. Saint Mark is celebrated on April 25 in the liturgical calendar. His relics were transferred to Venice, where he became the patron saint of the city.
