Rare silver reliquary with a glass front containing the relic of Saint Jerome . The relic is carefully fixed in the center of an exquisite decoration. It rests on a red cloth background, this color, omnipresent in the Christian liturgy, symbolizes the blood of Christ and his redemptive sacrifice. It is mounted on a small lozenge of paper or parchment, serving as a case for this precious relic. A finely worked silver border frames the whole, adding a touch of elegance and devotion.

Above, a parchment label bears the inscription "S. Hieronymi Doct" , confirming the identity of the saint whose relic is preserved.

"S. Hieronymi Doct" → "Saint Jerome, Doctor"

This inscription refers to Saint Jerome , Father of the Church and Doctor of the Church. Born around 347 and died in 420, he is best known for his translation of the Bible into Latin, the Vulgate , which remained the official version of the Catholic Church for centuries.

Deeply committed to the study of Scripture and the ascetic life, he led a life of penance and contemplation, particularly in Bethlehem. His ardent character and zeal for the truth marked his theological work and his numerous writings. He is often depicted with a lion, in reference to a legend in which he heals a wild beast's paw, as well as with a skull and books, symbols of his meditation on death and his erudition.

Revered as the patron saint of translators, scholars, and students , Saint Jerome embodies intellectual rigor and devotion to sacred texts.
