The reverse is decorated with an image of the Miraculous Virgin surrounded by the invocation:
“O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
The relic is attributed to Saint Germaine Cousin (1579–1601), a humble shepherdess from the Lauragais region near Toulouse. Despite a life marked by poverty, illness, and mistreatment, she remained a model of charity and faith. Her canonization in 1867 greatly contributed to the spread of her devotion throughout Catholic France.
Through its association with the Miraculous Virgin and the beloved figure of Saint Germaine, this reliquary medal stands as a touching testimony to French Catholic devotion in the 19th century.

Saint Germaine Cousin (1579–1601) was born in Pibrac, near Toulouse. Afflicted from childhood by a physical disability and subjected to mistreatment, she lived a humble life devoted to prayer and caring for the poor. Her reputation for holiness spread rapidly after her death, and numerous miracles were attributed to her intercession. When her body was exhumed in 1644, it was found to be incorrupt, greatly encouraging the growth of her cult. She was canonized by Pope Pius IX in 1867 and remains one of the most beloved saints of southern France.
