Saint Clare of Assisi (1194–1253) is a central figure in medieval Christianity and the founder of the Order of Poor Clares . A disciple of Saint Francis of Assisi, she chose to live a life of poverty, prayer, and absolute devotion to God. At the age of 18, Clare fled her aristocratic life to join Saint Francis of Assisi and found a monastery dedicated to the rigorous monastic life. Her charisma and deep faith allowed her to guide many women in this vocation. Saint Clare is also known for having received the rule of life of the Order of Poor Clares, marked by total poverty and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Canonized in 1255, she is celebrated as a model of purity, simplicity, and fidelity to the teaching of Francis. Her feast day is celebrated on August 11.
