This gargoyle representing a horned devil with bat wings in terracotta is an exceptional piece, testifying to the know-how of the 19th century. Probably conceived as a project or a study, it would have been used for the restoration of a Gothic building, apartment building or church. Its level of detail and finesse betrays the hand of a talented artist. It represents both a tribute to medieval architecture and a rare example of the creative process of a 19th century sculptor.
