Saint Peter of Verona was a 13th-century Dominican inquisitor, born in 1206 and died in 1252. He is best known for his role in the fight against the Cathar heresy in Italy. Peter of Verona was appointed inquisitor in 1233 by Pope Gregory IX. He played an active role in suppressing heretics and earned a reputation for being relentless in pursuing the Cathars. His life was marked by violent confrontations with heretics, and he was finally assassinated in 1252 by Cathar supporters. He was canonized by Pope Innocent IV in 1253.
