Saint Blaise is a 4th-century bishop and martyr venerated primarily in the East and West. He was Bishop of Sebaste, Armenia, and known for his healing abilities. According to tradition, he saved a child who was choking on a fish bone, making him the patron saint of sore throats. Persecuted during the reign of Emperor Licinius, he was arrested, tortured, and then beheaded for his Christian faith. He is often depicted holding crossed candles, used in throat blessings. His feast day is celebrated on February 3. Many churches preserve relics attributed to him.
