Saint Romuald (c. 951–1027) was an Italian Benedictine monk and the founder of the Camaldolese Order, a reformed branch of monasticism. Born into a noble family in Ravenna, he chose the eremitic life after witnessing a deadly duel involving his father. He spent several years in prayer and rigorous asceticism, seeking to renew the monastic life through stricter discipline. His teachings advocated a balance between solitude and community life. He founded numerous hermitages and monasteries throughout Italy. Known for his wisdom and miracles, he inspired profound spiritual reform. He was canonized in 1595 and is celebrated on June 19.
