Saint Roch was a Christian pilgrim born in Montpellier in the 14th century, known for caring for plague victims in Italy. He is often depicted with a dog who, according to tradition, brought him bread while he was ill and living in seclusion in a forest. Miraculously healed, Roch continued his path of faith and charity. He is renowned for numerous healing miracles. After his death, his cult spread rapidly across Europe, especially during times of plague. He became one of the most invoked saints against contagious diseases. The Church celebrates him on August 16.
