Saint Olive of Palermo, born around 448, is a Christian martyr saint venerated for her faith and sacrifice. The daughter of a Sicilian aristocrat, she was captured by the Vandals at age 13 and taken to Tunis, where she lived as a hermit in a cave. Impressed by her piety, the local population came to consult her for miraculous healings, which led to her persecution. After being imprisoned and tortured, she was condemned to die at the stake, but the flames refused to touch her, and she was beheaded. Patron saint of Palermo in the Middle Ages, she is one of the city's secondary patron saints, alongside Saint Agatha, Saint Christina and Saint Nympha. Since 1624, Saint Rosalia has been the principal patron saint of Palermo. Her feast day, celebrated on June 10, continues to inspire Christians around the world.
