Saint John Nepomucene is a Catholic saint born in Bohemia around 1340 and died in 1393. He was a priest and archdeacon of Prague, known for his devotion to the poor and the sick. He became famous for refusing to divulge the confessions of the Queen of Bohemia to her husband, King Wenceslas IV. In retaliation, the king had him tortured and thrown into the Vltava River, where he drowned. Saint John Nepomucene is venerated as the patron saint of bridges, confessors and protectors against slander.
