Saint James, also known as James the Greater, was an apostle of Jesus Christ in the 1st century. He was the brother of the apostle John and was part of Jesus' inner circle. After the death of Jesus, Saint James continued to spread his word in Spain. He was martyred and beheaded by Herod Agrippa I in 44 AD. His tomb was discovered in the 9th century in Galicia, Spain, and became an important place of pilgrimage for Christians, known as the Camino of Saint Jacques. Saint James is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and is the patron saint of Spain.
