Saint Anne is an important figure in Christian tradition as the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus. Its name means “grace” or “mercy”. Although little precise historical information exists about her, she is revered as a saint and protector of families, pregnant women and grandmothers. Her feast day, Saint Anne's Day, is celebrated on July 26 in the Catholic tradition. She is often depicted with Mary and the baby Jesus in Christian art. Devotion to Saint Anne has a long history and is particularly strong in certain regions of the world, such as Canada.
