Saint Francis of Assisi (1181–1226) is one of the most beloved saints of Christianity. Born into an Italian merchant family, he renounced all wealth to follow the Gospel radically. He founded the Order of Friars Minor, marked by poverty, fraternity, and preaching. Francis received the stigmata of Christ, a sign of his deep union with the Passion. His life is a testimony of humility and universal love, embracing both the poor and all creation. He is also the author of the famous Canticle of the Creatures, a joyful praise to God for the beauty of the world. Canonized in 1228, he remains the model of evangelical simplicity and peace.
