Vito and Modesto are two Christian martyrs from the early 4th century, venerated for their exemplary faith during the persecutions of Diocletian. Vito, a young Sicilian convert to Christianity, was educated and supported in his faith by Modesto, his tutor, and Crescentia, his governess. Together, they refused to renounce their faith despite threats. Arrested, they were subjected to terrible torture, but accounts report that miracles, such as healing the sick and calming ferocious animals, occurred. Finally, they were executed by beheading around 303-304 AD. Their memory is celebrated on June 15, and their relics are venerated in emblematic places such as St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. Vito is today the patron saint of sick children and dancers.
