The relics of the veil of the Holy Virgin have held a cherished place in Christian devotion since the early Middle Ages. This veil, believed to have been worn by Mary, is preserved in several sanctuaries across Europe. The most famous of these relics is kept in Chartres, France, where it has been venerated since the 9th century. According to tradition, it was gifted by the Byzantine emperor to Charlemagne. The veil is seen as a symbol of purity and divine motherhood. It has been solemnly displayed during times of plague or war to seek heavenly protection. Its veneration reflects the importance of Marian devotion in Catholic tradition.
