Rare bronze reliquary with a glass front, containing a relic of the True Cross, identified by an old Latin label: “S. Crucis” (Sancta Crux).
The relic, in fragmentary form, is carefully arranged at the center of a radiant decoration composed of paperolles and gold leaf, evoking a divine glory. This solar motif, typical of devotion to the Cross, emphasizes the sacred and universal dimension of the relic, a central symbol of Christianity. The whole rests on a brown textile background, framed by delicate rolled paper filigree work, forming a finely undulating ornamentation.
The reliquary is protected by its original glass and mounted in a circular frame with a suspension loop.
The ensemble is in good used condition, with a beautiful patina of age. The internal assembly has remained intact, indicating an object that has never been opened or altered since its creation.
Relics of the True Cross are among the most venerated in Christianity. Their dissemination dates back to the earliest centuries, particularly following the discoveries attributed to Saint Helena in the 4th century. Due to this very early dispersion and their spiritual importance, these fragments have always been preserved with particular care, often in small portable reliquaries intended for private devotion.

Relics of the True Cross hold a prominent place in Christian tradition, as they are directly connected to the Passion of Christ. They are regarded as tangible witnesses of the Cross on which Christ was crucified and embody one of the most powerful symbols of the Christian faith. From the earliest centuries, they have been carefully preserved and widely disseminated throughout Christendom. Their veneration is rooted in their direct association with Christ’s sacrifice and the mystery of redemption. In religious consciousness, they represent at once suffering, salvation, and hope. Both material and highly symbolic objects, they connect the faithful to a central event of sacred history. Thus, relics of the True Cross remain a powerful sign of faith, memory, and spiritual continuity.
