Saint Vincent Ferrer (1350–1419) was a Spanish Dominican preacher, renowned for his apostolic zeal and eloquence. Born in Valencia, he entered the Order of Preachers at a young age and distinguished himself by his theological learning and austere lifestyle. He traveled throughout Western Europe—France, Italy, Spain, and England—calling for conversion in a time troubled by the Western Schism. His sermons drew enormous crowds, and many conversions and miracles are attributed to him. He preached penance and proclaimed the nearness of the Last Judgment. He was canonized in 1455 by Pope Callixtus III and is commemorated on April 5. He is the patron saint of preachers, builders, and Brittany.
