Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) was a Dominican theologian and philosopher, one of the most influential figures in Christian thought. He is the author of the Summa Theologica , a monumental work that reconciles Christian faith with reason and Aristotelian philosophy. A defender of the concept of natural law, he laid the foundations of scholastic theology and influenced Catholic doctrine. Canonized in 1323, he was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church and patron of Catholic universities. His approach to divine knowledge is based on the complementarity between revelation and reason. He also developed the theory of "proofs of the existence of God." His feast day is January 28 in the Catholic Church.
