Saint Teresa of Avila (1515–1582) was a 16th-century Spanish mystic and reformer. She entered Carmel and worked to reform the order to return to a more rigorous life of prayer, founding the Discalced Carmelites with Saint John of the Cross. Her major works, such as The Interior Castle and The Book of Life , explore the depths of the spiritual life, guiding souls toward union with God through contemplative prayer. Teresa had intense mystical experiences, marked by visions and ecstasies. Her charisma and wisdom earned her the title of Doctor of the Church in 1970, a rare title for a woman. Her feast day is celebrated on October 15, and she remains an inspiration to those seeking deep spirituality.
