Saint Philip the Apostle was one of the twelve chosen by Jesus to follow him and proclaim the Gospel. Originally from Bethsaida in Galilee, he is presented in the Gospel of John as the one who brought Nathanael (Bartholomew) to Christ. He often appears as a disciple with a simple and upright spirit, seeking to understand the words of his Master. Philip also distinguished himself by his readiness to serve, notably during the multiplication of the loaves when Jesus tested him. Tradition reports that after Pentecost, he preached in Phrygia and Asia Minor, where he brought about many conversions. He is said to have suffered martyrdom at Hierapolis, crucified out of fidelity to Christ. The Church venerates him as a courageous witness of the faith and an example of obedience to God's call.
