Saint Jean-François Régis (1597-1640) was a French Jesuit priest, known for his missionary zeal among the poor and the excluded. He traveled through Vivarais, Velay and Languedoc, preaching, hearing confessions and helping the most destitute. He founded charities, notably for prostitutes seeking rehabilitation. Tireless, he faced difficult conditions to bring his message. His humility and fervor earned him a great reputation for holiness. He died of exhaustion in 1640, at only 43 years old. Canonized in 1737, he is the patron saint of missionaries and net artisans.
