Saint Denis, Bishop of Paris and martyr of the 3rd century, is one of the most venerated saints in France. According to tradition, he was sent to Gaul by the Pope to evangelize the people and establish the Christian faith. After converting many inhabitants, he was arrested during the persecution of Christians under the Emperor Decius. Sentenced to death, he was beheaded on the hill of Montmartre in Paris. Legend has it that, after his beheading, Saint Denis took his head and walked several kilometers while preaching. His martyrdom and determination to remain faithful to his faith made him a symbol of courage and dedication. He is the patron saint of the dioceses of Paris and France, and his feast day is celebrated on October 9.
