Saint Camillus de Lellis (1550-1614) was an Italian priest known for founding the Order of Clerics Regular Ministers of the Sick (the Camillians). Initially a soldier, he turned to faith after a series of events marked by illness and a spiritual conversion. Camillus devoted his life to caring for the sick, introducing new humanitarian practices in hospitals. He was particularly devoted to victims of the plague and those suffering from serious illnesses. Canonized in 1746, he is the patron saint of the sick, hospitals, and medical personnel.
