RELIC OF SAINT ANTONIN OF FLORENCE

Rare silver-plated bronze reliquary with a glass facade containing the relic of Saint Antoninus of Florence.

The relic is fixed in the center of a refined decoration. It rests on a background of deep red fabric, this color, omnipresent in the Christian liturgy, symbolizes the blood of Christ and his redemptive sacrifice. Around the relic, a radiant pattern in gold leaf evokes a divine halo, reinforcing its sacred character.

Below, a paper or parchment label bears the inscription "Ex Cappa S. Antonini Arch. F" (From the mantle of Saint Antoninus, archbishop and brother.)

The red wax seal affixed by the Church not only guarantees the authenticity of the relic, but also that the reliquary has not been opened and that the relic has not been handled since it was closed. It thus ensures its intact preservation, providing complete certainty as to its provenance and integrity.

Saint Antoninus of Florence (1389-1459) was an Italian Dominican friar known for his wisdom and commitment to social justice. He entered the Order of Preachers at a young age and distinguished himself by his austerity and moral rigor. In 1446, he was appointed Archbishop of Florence, where he devoted himself to the reform of the clergy and to helping the poor. He founded several charities, including the Mont-de-Piété , to combat usury and support the poor. A theologian and moralist, he wrote influential treatises on ethics and canon law. He was also known for his humility, living modestly despite his high office. Canonized in 1523, he is today venerated as a model of charity and Christian justice.
