King Saint Louis, also known as Louis IX, ruled France in the 13th century. He is known for his piety and justice, enacting many legal and social reforms. Saint Louis also led two crusades, including the Seventh Crusade to Egypt. His reign was marked by the construction of the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris and his central role in the affair of Christ's Crown of Thorns. His death in 1270 in Tunis during the Eighth Crusade further cemented his reputation as a saint, and he was canonized in 1297. He remains an iconic figure in the medieval French monarchy.
The relics of the body of King Saint Louis are scattered in several sacred places throughout the world.
