A utilitarian and decorative, even advertising object, pyrogen was very widespread in the 19th century in cafés, restaurants and private living rooms. Of varied shape and decoration, they were made of spelter, bronze, wood, ceramic, silver or gold. Wall or flat, with or without a base, they had a cup for matches, a scraper and possibly a wick.
