MEDIEVAL SHORT SWORD 13th century

Short sword in wrought iron, a typical weapon of the crusades period and contemporary with the famous Knights Templar. Its functional and robust design makes it an excellent example of the war weapons used in the Middle Ages.

The pommel, in the shape of a ball, allows a good balance of the weapon, offering the fighter better handling and precise control of strikes. The quillons, very slightly curved, ensure effective protection of the hand while allowing a comfortable grip and adaptable to different combat techniques.

The blade, with a diamond-shaped section, is evidence of advanced forging work for the time. Its shape gives the sword great rigidity and increased penetration capacity, ideal for facing opponents in chainmail. More compact than a long sword, this short version was particularly appreciated for close combat, allowing for quick and precise blows.

Showing strong oxidation , this piece bears the marks of time, testifying to its antiquity and its history. It perfectly embodies the armament of the knights of the 13th century and could have belonged to a crusader or a member of the Order of the Temple.
