Saint Julia, also called Julia, is a Christian martyr venerated since Antiquity. According to the most widespread tradition, she was a young Christian from Carthage, captured and then sold as a slave, who preserved an unshakable faith. Refusing to renounce Christ and to take part in pagan sacrifices, she was crucified in Corsica in the 5th century. Her cult quickly spread throughout the Mediterranean, especially in Nonza in Corsica, where a church is dedicated to her. She is honored as patroness of Corsica and as a model of fidelity in trial. Her relics were transferred to Brescia, in Italy, in the Middle Ages, further enhancing her renown. Her liturgical feast is celebrated on May 22.
