This funeral pall is a liturgical textile piece used in Christian funeral rites. Intended to be placed over the coffin of the deceased, it is distinguished by its great aesthetic simplicity and strong symbolic significance.

Made from black moiré silk fabric or slightly shiny satin cloth, the pall evokes the solemnity and dignity of the funeral moment. The reverse side is fully lined with a light beige cotton or linen canvas, hand-sewn, demonstrating careful craftsmanship and regular liturgical use.

The black fabric shows fold marks, likely due to prolonged storage, suggesting that it was carefully preserved between uses. The lining displays some oxidation spots and signs of aging, indicating long-standing use, possibly within a parish or village setting where such objects were treasured and passed down.

This pall was used during traditional funeral services held in churches. It was placed over the coffin during the requiem mass or the laying out of the body, thus contributing to the ritual of separation in an atmosphere of reverence and prayer.
