Magnificent reliquary in finely chiseled and gilded bronze, resting on a molded circular base adorned with stylized leaf motifs. The shaft, decorated with raised vegetal designs, rises into a rich baroque composition forming a symmetrical frame of volutes, foliage, flowers, and shells, typical of the religious art of the period.

The central section features an oval glass window enclosing a silver cross housing a relic of the True Cross of Christ.

A smiling cherub adorns the lower part of the frame, while a cross at the top crowns the entire piece, affirming the sacred function of the object. The whole ensemble evokes the rich iconography and symbolism characteristic of the Counter-Reformation.

Relics of the True Cross are believed to be fragments of the wooden cross upon which Jesus Christ was crucified. These sacred artifacts hold significant meaning in Christianity, symbolizing both the crucifixion and redemption. According to tradition, the cross was discovered by Saint Helena, mother of Roman Emperor Constantine, in the 4th century during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Over the centuries, relics of the True Cross were distributed among numerous churches and institutions throughout the Christian world. Elaborate reliquaries and sumptuous liturgical objects were crafted to enshrine these holy fragments. Believers regard these relics as objects of veneration, attributing to them spiritual power and the ability to inspire miracles.
