Saint Joseph, husband of the Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus, is one of the most venerated saints in Christianity. Descended from the royal line of David, he is described in the Gospels as a just and obedient man before God. Although he never speaks in the Gospels, his faith and his silent yet essential role in the life of the Holy Family are deeply respected. Joseph accepted Mary as his wife despite the mysterious circumstances of Jesus’ conception, thus demonstrating his trust in God. He is the patron saint of workers, families, and the dying. Canonized very early, he is celebrated on March 19. His example of humility, hard work, and devotion continues to inspire Christians around the world.
