Clement of Rome or Clemens Romanus
Clement was a disciple of Saint Paul who speaks of it in his letter to the Philippians (4, 3). Clement is one of the first successors of Saint Peter in the See of Rome. But little is known of his pontificate at this time of the nascent Church. His letter to the Corinthians is the first document in which we see the Church of Rome intervening in another Church so that charity may live there , an invaluable document by the freshness of the text so close to the writings of the evangelists. According to unverified tradition, he was exiled to Crimea, to Cherson, where he suffered martyrdom by drowning. His relics were brought back to Rome by Saints Cyril and Methodius in the 9th century.
